Choosing the Right Path After a Knee Injury
One of our patients, let’s call him John, was an enthusiastic runner who faced a knee injury during a race that left him searching for the best recovery option. The idea of undergoing surgery or being dependent on medication was not something John liked the idea of, and it also raised concerns about costs and long-term health effects.
In his search for a better solution, John discovered our cash-based physical therapy practice, Boulet Physical Therapy, known for its personalized approach to injury recovery.
Initial Contact: A Warm Welcome and Clear Information
Upon contacting Boulet Physical Therapy, John was met with a friendly and professional response. Our team there took the time to understand his situation and clearly explained how physical therapy could aid his recovery.
We introduced the concept of a cash-based system, emphasizing transparent pricing—meaning John would know exactly how much his treatment would cost upfront, without any hidden fees or billing surprises. This particularly appealed to John, who was already dealing with the stress of his injury.

Key Benefits of Choosing Boulet Physical Therapy
The conversation with our team highlighted several key benefits of our services:
- Personalized Care: John learned that we offered treatments tailored specifically to his needs, which could directly address his knee injury without the insurance company telling him or us what he needs to get better. This meant his therapy could focus on getting him back to running as quickly as possible.
- Immediate Access via Direct Access: John was also informed that he didn’t need a doctor’s referral to start therapy at Boulet Physical Therapy. Direct Access is a law that allows an individual to begin the recovery process right away, avoiding the delays and extra costs associated with going to a physician just to get a referral to physical therapy.
- Focus on Long-term Outcomes: We explained our commitment to achieving lasting outcomes, not just temporary fixes or focusing only on the symptoms. This approach was about getting to the root of the problems, working to resolve them, and preventing future injuries, aligning with John’s goals.

Direct Access and Cash-Based Options Explained
John asked questions to understand direct access and exactly how cash-based payments worked. The team at Boulet Physical Therapy provided a detailed explanation:
Direct Access
- Patients can go directly to a physical therapist without waiting for a doctor’s referral. It’s like skipping the middleman to get faster treatment, saving time and money. For John, this meant he could start treating his knee immediately without additional doctor visits.
Cash-Based Benefits
- Cost Savings: Often more affordable in the long run, avoiding the indirect costs of delayed treatment or unnecessary medical procedures.
- Transparent Pricing: Patients see the costs upfront. This means no surprise bills or hidden fees.
- Tailored Care: Our therapists focus solely on the patient’s needs, not what insurance dictates.
- Efficiency and Effectiveness: Without the red tape of insurance, therapy focuses on the most effective recovery strategies and spends time with the patient, not filling out paperwork.
The Decision: Opting for Personalized, Effective Care
With this information, John felt confident that his path to recovery was aligned with his financial and health priorities. He was particularly happy with the idea of avoiding surgery and the risks associated with long-term medication use.
John got started on his recovery with a series of one-on-one sessions tailored to his specific needs. The focus on his particular injury and the flexible approach to treatment allowed for adjustments as his knee healed, ensuring each step of the process was geared towards the best possible outcome.
Crossing the Finish Line: A Testament to Effective Care
Thanks to our team’s personalized care and expert guidance, John could return to the racing scene. Crossing the finish line at another race was not just a personal victory; it was a testament to the effective and patient-centered care he received.
John’s choice to go with Boulet Physical Therapy for his physical therapy showcased the advantages of a system that prioritizes patient care, transparency, and cost-effectiveness!
3 Ways to Practice Gratitude
Did you know that being grateful is actually good for your health? It’s true! We all love Thanksgiving for the excellent food, football, and time spent with family, but truthfully, this holiday means much more. Practicing gratitude can lead to greater happiness all year long. According to Harvard Health Publishing, “Gratitude helps people feel more positive emotions, relish good experiences, improve their health, deal with adversity, and build strong relationships.” If you want to practice more gratitude, take a look at these 3 tips:
- Write thank you letters: Remember writing thank you letters? How long has it been since you wrote one? You don’t need to have a wedding, graduation, or other big life event to thank the people in your life. Try writing thank you letters to your friends and family for the little things– you’ll be surprised at how good it feels!
- Write down what you are grateful for everyday: This might sound intimidating, but it doesn’t have to be! Take a few minutes each morning or evening to write down at least 3 things that you are grateful for in your life. This repeated action helps us shift into a more positive mindset and can help fight symptoms of depression and anxiety.
- Use visual reminders : It can be hard to remember to practice gratitude. With your hectic schedule, sometimes it can feel impossible to sit down, take a moment to breathe, and reflect on your blessings. Visual cues can be a great tool for reminding us to take a beat. Something as simple as sticky notes, a poster, or even your home screen on your phone or laptop can help us remember to slow down and shift to a positive mindset.

Easy Sausage & Herb Stuffing
Ingredients:
- 8 cups (400g) store-bought unseasoned stuffing cubes
- 1 stick (½ cup) unsalted butter
- 1½ cups diced yellow onion (from 1 large or 2 small onions)
- 1 cup diced celery (from 3 large celery stalks)
- 4 garlic cloves, finely chopped
- 1 pound bulk sweet Italian sausage (i.e., sausage with the casings removed)
- 2¾ cups low sodium chicken broth
- 1 large egg, beaten
- 1 tablespoon fresh chopped rosemary
- 1 tablespoon fresh chopped sage
- ¼ cup fresh chopped parsley
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
Directions:
- Preheat the oven to 350°F. Grease a 9 x 13-inch baking dish with butter.
Place the stuffing cubes in a large mixing bowl. - In a large sauté pan, melt the butter. Add the onions and celery and cook over medium heat, stirring occasionally, for about 8 minutes, or until the vegetables are soft. Add the garlic and cook 2 minutes more. Add the vegetables to the stuffing cubes. (Don’t wash the pan but scrape out every last bit of vegetables, otherwise they will burn in the next step.)
- In the same pan, cook the sausage over medium heat for 8-10 minutes, until browned and cooked through, breaking up the sausage with a metal spatula while cooking (the largest pieces should be no greater than ¼-inch). Add the browned sausage and fat to the bread cubes and vegetables.
- Add the chicken broth, egg, rosemary, sage, parsley, salt and pepper to the bread cube mixture and mix until the bread is soft and moistened. Transfer the stuffing to the prepared baking dish and bake for 65-75 minutes, uncovered, until deeply golden and crisp on top.
The Benefits of Choosing Physical Therapy Over Surgery and Medication
Physical therapy at Boulet Physical Therapy is a cost-effective way to manage injuries and chronic conditions, as compared to the more expensive and invasive options of surgery and long-term medication use.
Cost Comparison: Physical Therapy vs. Surgery and Medication
While the immediate costs of physical therapy sessions might appear significant, they generally amount to much less than the combined expenses related to surgical interventions.
Surgery not only includes the cost of the procedure itself but may also include a hospital stay, post-operative care, and the rehabilitation process. These procedures also introduce risks such as possible infections, complications, and the need for additional surgeries if outcomes are not as expected. The recovery from surgery can extend over a long period, necessitating time away from work and accruing costs for follow-up treatments.
In contrast, managing a condition with medication might seem economically viable in the short term but can lead to considerable expenses over time. Medications typically address symptoms rather than the root cause and can result in side effects or dependency.
Key Benefits of Physical Therapy:
- Non-Invasive Treatment: Physical therapy focuses on enhancing mobility, reducing pain, and treating the underlying issues through exercises and treatments, avoiding the risks associated with surgery.
- Cost-Effective: Avoiding surgery and minimizing medication can lead to significant financial savings and better health outcomes.
- Preventative Care: Physical therapy can reduce the likelihood of conditions worsening to the point where expensive and invasive treatments become necessary.
Physical therapy at Boulet Physical Therapy not only aids in immediate recovery but also promotes long-term health, potentially saving patients from the high costs and risks associated with surgery and ongoing medication. By investing in physical therapy, individuals can enjoy a cost-effective path to recovery, emphasizing improved function and preventative care for a healthier future.
