What to Expect During Physical Therapy

On your first visit, your physical therapist will conduct a thorough evaluation. They will ask about your medical history, assess your range of motion, and discuss your pain symptoms.

Once they have a clear picture, they will create a personalized plan for your recovery. This plan will include specific exercises and techniques tailored to your condition. You’ll work closely with your therapist, who will monitor your progress and adjust as needed.

Here are some of the benefits you can expect from physical therapy for neck pain:

  • Pain Relief: The primary goal of physical therapy is to reduce your pain and discomfort. With targeted exercises and techniques, many people experience significant relief.
  • Improved Mobility: You’ll likely notice improved neck mobility as you progress through your therapy. This means you can turn your head more easily and without pain.
  • Better Quality of Life: Neck pain can limit your daily activities. Physical therapy can help you regain your ability to do things you love, like gardening, playing sports, or even just enjoying a pain-free night’s sleep.
  • Preventing Recurrence: Our physical therapists don’t just treat the symptoms; they also work on preventing future episodes of neck pain. By learning better habits and exercises, you can reduce the chances of neck pain returning.

If you’ve been dealing with neck pain, physical therapy might be the solution you’ve been looking for. Reach out to our physical therapists and work towards a pain-free future.

Treatment Spotlight:

Manual Therapy for Neck Pain

At Boulet Physical Therapy and Wellness, we offer several drug-free approaches to treating neck pain. Today, however, we want to highlight a particularly effective technique: manual therapy. Manual therapy refers to a set of hands-on techniques focused on improving mobility, boosting blood circulation, and facilitating your body’s healing process. They can be especially effective for managing chronic neck pain.

Three Manual Therapy Techniques We Love for Addressing Neck Pain

  • Neck Mobilizations: This technique involves carefully guiding your neck through its current range of motion. This helps enhance neck mobility, restore neck function, and alleviate nerve irritation.
  • Trigger Point Release: This technique targets specific areas of muscle tightness and tenderness known as “trigger points,” which can cause pain and contribute to neck discomfort. Our PTs use direct pressure to release these trigger points, helping reduce muscle tension and alleviate pain.
  • Myofascial Release: This technique focuses on the connective tissue surrounding muscles, which can become restricted and contribute to pain and stiffness. It involves gentle stretching and sustained pressure on the affected areas to promote relaxation and improved tissue function.

These three techniques can provide targeted relief, release muscle restrictions, and enhance overall neck function, making them valuable components of a comprehensive plan.  Our goal is to provide immediate relief and long-term results, and manual techniques are just one tool we use to get there!

Hosting Thanksgiving Dinner?

Manage Stress with These Tips

We love Thanksgiving at Boulet Physical Therapy and Wellness. It’s a time to gather with friends and family, enjoy a great meal, and give thanks for all of the year’s blessings. But we also know the big day can be stressful—especially if you’re hosting.

Here are a few simple tips to stay happy and healthy this Thanksgiving:

  • Try some deep breathing exercises. In the thick of cooking five different side dishes and feeling overwhelmed? Try box breathing, a simple technique in which you slowly breathe in and out for 3-4 counts.
  • Fix a balanced plate. Rather than stressing about overindulging, just make sure to add some green veggies to your plate alongside the cornbread stuffing and fried turkey.
  • Don’t forget your post-meal walk. If you prepped dinner, let someone else take care of the dishes while you take a relaxing stroll around the neighborhood. Relax–you earned it!
